About KCA

The Kansas Counseling Association (KCA) is a branch of the American Counseling Association (ACA).  The KCA was chartered in 1959 as the Kansas Personnel and Guidance Association, acting as the Kansas state branch to the ACA. In 1984 the Kansas Personnel and Guidance Association changed its name to the Kansas Association for Counseling and Development, and then changed its name again to the Kansas Counseling Association (KCA) in 1992. It is the professional organization for counselors in Kansas. Members work in private practice, community agency and religious institutions, and in elementary, secondary, and post-secondary schools. It was formed with the purpose of enhancing human development through the lifespan and promoting the counseling profession. The KCA is a non-profit professional association.  It serves its members to advance the field of counseling in the broad areas of career, education, and mental health.  The KCA acts as an umbrella organization for six Regions within Kansas and nine Divisions for all areas of counseling within the state of Kansas.

The mission of the Kansas Counseling Association (KCA) is to enhance the quality of life in society by promoting the development of professional counselors, advancing the counseling profession, and using the profession and practice of counseling to promote respect for human dignity and diversity.
